My Exploding Schedule

Help God: I’d like to call a timeout from my schedule and have some soothing “Enya” quiet time with you, but today’s one of those crazy days where five duties just turned into 20. I had to stay an hour late at school, then Jennifer and I had a 45-minute wait at the doctor’s office—all to hear: “It’s a rash; it’ll go away by itself.” Then groceries, drop off Fed Ex packages, and I’m supposed to update the church’s website announcements when the girls are in bed. Why on earth did I sign up for that?

I feel guilty about skipping my devotional. And, of course, you know that I sometimes forget it even when my life is more in control and I have the time in my schedule. Please forgive me. I love you and want a deeper friendship, but all these other people and deadlines feel more real and urgent.

So with a red face, I have to say thank you for the beautiful reality that you are there even when I rush right past you and headlong into another crazy day. Thank you for revealing your accepting grace during my shortsighted moments and bathing me with love when I trudge back to my quiet space where your still, small voice welcomes me.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
